David Lee Holt is a native Texas guitarist, vocalist and songwriter born in Dallas, raised in Lubbock and nurtured in Austin. He has toured and/or recorded with Carlene Carter, Storyville (Austin award-winning supergroup that included Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section), The Mavericks, and Joe Ely, who he still works with frequently — and many others.
David has toured extensively in the U.S. and throughout Europe for decades on bills with such diverse acts as the Allman Brothers, BB King, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, to name a few. He still lives in the Austin area and can frequently be seen in local iconic venues such as The Continental Club and Antone’s.
David’s first and only solo album, Perpetual Motion, was released in 2004.
Holt’s first solo album allows him the room to show off an amazing array of guitar styles and songwriting influences, ranging from blues to rock to country, gathered and nurtured in a quarter-century of service as a sought-after guitar ace. While Holt’s guitar prowess is a knockout punch, the real surprise of his debut is his voice, which shows that while Milligan may have been the front man in Storyville, he wasn’t the only member of the band who could sing with soul and street credibility. ~HoustonPress
A primo axeman, few might guess that deep down Holt’s also a fine vocalist and songwriter. With Perpetual Motion, Holt handily demonstrates he’s the proverbial triple threat. ~Austin Chronicle
Holt has long been one of Austin’s best sidemen, a guitar hero in jean jacket, slinging his axe in Storyville and dozens of local and national acts before that. Blues, country, rock, David has done it all. But his resume doesn’t prepare one for the melodic attractiveness of his voice on “Walk On the Moon Again” or the strength of songwriting throughout his first solo record. ~Austin 360
